If you couldn’t do what you would be doing now as a profession, you would be a? Pilot, tour caddie, or Coast Guard

What does supporting junior golfers mean to you? So much! Growing up, my family didn’t play golf nor did we have access to affordable golf. Growing up, like so many kids, my family got by on very little — my dad was a Xerox repairman — but I was lucky to have some generous members of the golf community support me in the game. While I never played competitive golf at higher levels, the game of golf has been and continues to be core to my development as an individual, business owner, and community member. Supporting junior golf is the best way I know to pay it forward.

A Golfer’s Journey:

How long have you been golfing for? Who introduced you to the game of golf? 27 years. A childhood friend and his dad introduced me to the game by taking me to the Rancho Park driving range. I’ll never forget that moment when I got the golf bug.

What is your favorite club in your bag and why? They’re all my favorite, but I feel like my lob wedge, and I have seen it all. My lob has definitely saved me more strokes than any other club.

You have a free round at any golf course in the world, which are you choosing? I’ve been lucky enough to play a lot of amazing courses, but Augusta is on my bucket list. Of the courses I’ve been fortunate to play, Spyglass or Cypress Point are two of my absolute favorites.

Dream foursome? Who’s in it and why? There are hundreds of people I’d love to play golf with, but my standing Sunday group is my favorite — it’s competitive, they’re some of my favorite people, and we’ve got some great shared memories. There’s nothing better than wanting what you already have.

What would you tell juniors to interest them in the game of golf?Don’t underestimate the dividends this game will pay in life. And this is true even if you’re not the best golfer or you don’t pursue it professionally. Golf teaches us so much about life, fairness, relationships, business, community, but mostly ourselves. There were times I didn’t want to play, but the game has a way of pulling you back in, either through a special course, an event, watching the pros, or just hitting balls at the range. When I look back, I’m awestruck by all this game has given me and I am so glad I’ve let it be a part of my life.

Beyond the Course:

What is something you wish more people knew about you? I’m sarcastic and dry to a fault and I think that sometimes gives the wrong impression of who I really am.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?   Don’t three putt! In all seriousness, I heard someone say you should always try to get a little better every day. I think that’s good advice for life, work, relationships, golf, and more.

What song or book has significantly influenced your life, and in what way? There are too many to list! Favorite artist/band is Nada Surf and the golf book that helped hook me on golf was Nick Faldo’s “A Swing for Life.”
