SCGA Junior hosted an inaugural Girls Golf National Championship qualifier at Brookside GC #2 on April 20 and 21! The event was a nationally ranked, two-day tournament organized in partnership with Peggy Kirk Bell Tour (PKBT) for the National Championship to be held in North Carolina this Summer. The weekend highlighted SCGA Junior’s growing partnership with LPGA and empowering young female golfers who are interested in competitive opportunities.
Run by SCGA Junior staff and volunteers to create fun, competitive rounds on the course, the tournament proved to be just that. LPGA Pro, Lizette Salas, served as an ambassador for the tournament, encouraging juniors with a pre-tournament email and special video message!
The field consisted of 35 teenage girls, with the top two and four from each division earning their way into the National Championship. The 14-year-old Bell National Division winner Vivi Yen went into the second round two under par and finished the tournament with a total score of three over. Future National Division winner, 12-year-old Anna Wu, shot 4 over for the weekend, with a second round score of 73! Final results can be viewed here: PKB Girls Golf Tour (pkbgt.org)
SCGA Junior Program staff Kristen Lee, Natalie Brugler, Pratima Sherpa and Lauren Fesler oversaw all aspects of the event, ensuring the tournament ran seamlessly. SCGA and Foundation board members Kathy Kurata and Stephanie Lue served as starters, while SCGA Junior supporters Carol Sarkissian, Dawn Hollingsworth and Marianne Sfreddon volunteered as rules officials giving the players an official tournament experience.
The support of local SCGA women and volunteers is invaluable in nurturing the next generation of female golfers. Together, we’re creating a fun and competitive playing environment where young women can thrive and excel in the world of golf. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to champion girls’ golf for years to come.
