On December 3, 2023, the Southwest Los Angeles Community celebrated winter with a Winter Community Event at the Maggie Hathaway Golf Course.
Families displayed their skills in dedicated chipping and putting games. The SCGA junior-themed coloring pages and face painting were a big hit with the local kids. A closest-to-the-pin competition marked the event’s high point, with the winner taking home a foursome pass to Alondra Park Golf Course.
With over 40 people in attendance, the Winter Community Event provided a perfect platform to introduce golf to a diverse group of new enthusiasts. There was a lot of laughter and a mutual love of sports in the air. To add to the experience, participants had the opportunity to grab exclusive US Open Merchandise and Los Angeles Golf Club merchandise, creating a memorable keepsake from the event.
In the words of Senior Golf Instructor Chris Staples, “This is huge for the community, especially in Inglewood. It provides the ability to introduce a sport that is unlikely to this community.” The event’s impact goes beyond the greens, offering a unique opportunity to broaden the horizons of the local community through the sport of golf.
The Winter Community Event at Maggie Hathaway Golf Course was a success, bringing together the community in a celebration of golf and winter festivities. The Southwest Los Angeles Community looks forward to future events that will continue to bring juniors together, inspire, and celebrate the spirit of golf.
