What does supporting junior golfers mean to you? Golf is an amazing, yet largely inaccessible sport/hobby. Golf enthusiasts love the game and recognize it has utility well beyond competition- including but not limited to professional development, social networking, travel opportunities, and character- building. Supporting junior golf makes this incredible game more accessible specifically here in Southern California, a rare year-round golf environment and a city with incredible diversity.
A Golfer’s Journey:
How long have you been golfing for? Who introduced you to the game of golf? We moved next door to a golf development community when I was 11 years old. In that neighborhood, a sport that was perceived as “uncool” was just the opposite, and neighborhood kids often would play a few holes at dusk after the course closed. Once I began, I was hooked!
What is your favorite club in your bag and why? Callaway Apex 19-degree Utility Wedge. Has created some amazing and long-distance aspirational approach shots into greens in regulation.
You have a free round at any golf course in the world, which are you choosing? Riviera
Dream foursome? Who’s in it and why? Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus. Legends!
What would you tell juniors to interest them in the game of golf? Learn this sport at your age, and you can play your whole life. And the great thing is the ball doesn’t move. You have a very good chance of hitting it!
Beyond the Course:
What is something you wish more people knew about you? I am on day 675 of Duolingo Spanish.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? “You may be the smartest person in the room, but there is no need to ever make that claim”.
What song or book has significantly influenced your life, and in what way? The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The American Dream is largely built on deception, avarice, and aspiration. Always important to remember this.
