The club hosts second annual G.A.M.E. event
Hacienda GC hosted the SCGA Foundation for its second annual holiday G.A.M.E. Day on Monday. Twenty-eight juniors and club members were paired together for a mentoring experience which started with breakfast and vocational speakers, including Golf Course Superintendant Rafael Barajas and Insurance Salesman and Hacienda Member Kevin McCarthy. Both speakers spoke to the juniors about personal career goal setting, perseverance and giving back. As part of the vocational aspect of the program, the juniors received an overview of each member’s career and are now encouraged to network with those who are experienced in a line of work which interests them. After a fun day of golf, the teams met for hot chocolate and snacks while each of the juniors spoke to the group about a life lesson they learned from their mentor.
Nine of the Foundation’s 19 scholars attended the event and served as role models and mentors for the younger G.A.M.E. Club members. A sophomore scholar in the program, Kenneth Punyasavatsut, said, “The Hacienda event in 2009 was the first time I met the SCGA Foundation staff in person as a junior. This place brings back lots of memories! Reflecting back, I am very grateful for all the opportunities the SCGA Foundation has provided for me and the rest of the juniors. I cannot believe how much this program has grown from that day and the things I have accomplished thus far.”
Hacienda GC is one of eight local clubs which support the G.A.M.E. Day program. The Foundation appreciates their support and thanks General Manager Frank Cordeiro, Hacienda Event Committee Chair Dexter Savage and the Hacienda staff for a memorable, educational and fun day.
