SCGA Junior is supporting three teams participating in the San Gabriel Valley Junior Golf summer league. The Pico Rivera team is in its 4th year as a member of the league and for the first time, teams from Bell Gardens GC and Maggie Hathaway GC are also taking part.
Jaden Ortiz is a veteran, competing on the Pico Rivera team for the 4th consecutive year while also participating in the SCGA Junior Learn to Compete instruction program.
His father Fernando has noticed improvement every summer with the juniors on the team.
“Hard work pays off, but it definitely helps to have great role models around our kids. Having coaches like Justin, Andrew and Eric definitely helps bring more interest from our younger golfers,” said Ortiz.
“The kids who also participate in High School teams during the season and then join the SCGA instruction program in the offseason to make the necessary changes to help keep their game on point.”
This past Saturday Chloe Viray, who also is in the Learn to Compete program, led her age division by shooting even par. Her father Wally has also noticed how she particularly enjoys playing in the team atmosphere.
“She has been competing in individual tournaments since she was 4 years old,” said Viray. “However, she shines even brighter when she plays for the SCGA Junior team with her friends.”
