Alegra Gurian is the new U.S.G.A Boatwright intern for SCGA Junior. Previous to her internship she coached in the program for two years.
The 2024 Foundation Cup presented by Palm Golf Co. started bright and early on the morning of Aug. 5, at Mission Viejo CC. Although the temperature for the day was high, spirits were higher. The 23 teams comprised of SCGA Junior participants and supporters, gathered to compete in support of the Foundation. This annual fundraiser helps encourage relationships between donors and the young golfers who receive their generous support.
Fundraising is essential in allowing our program to continuously contribute to our five communities and provide the skills and joy that golfing brings.
“This event isn’t just about playing a round of golf—it’s about raising money to support young players like me,” said Lily Shay, SCGA Junior participant. “Every dollar we raise goes straight back into our community, helping more young golfers grow. I wouldn’t be the golfer I am today without the SCGA Junior Golf Foundation and the amazing people donating to our cause.”
The fundraiser not only allows donors to get to know the juniors but compete as well.
Kevin Fitzgerald, Huy Dang and Zack Moran, SCGA staff and board members, took home the trophy alongside SCGA Junior participant Adrian Rodriguez with a gross score of eight under par.
The 30 juniors who played raised $10,570 on behalf of the Foundation and the virtual auction brought in more than $30,000. The junior participants that raised the most money ahead of the Cup, went home with custom-made SCGA Junior x Vans sneakers thanks to Chris Waters.
As the new USGA P.J. Boatwright Intern, I had the pleasure of spending the day on the difficult third hole with current scholar and junior participant Salma Ibrahim. Foundation Cup participants had the opportunity to try and hit their shot closer to the pin than Salma. As group after group came and attempted to rise to the challenge, it was a joy to watch Salma swing and go head-to-head against her fellow juniors.
The 2024 Foundation Cup could not have been a success without our title sponsor, Palm Golf Co. They provided incredible apparel for the staff, committee and junior participants. MNML Golf provided a closest to the pin prize, a custom painted MNML x Palm Golf Co. golf bag.
The success of the 2024 Foundation cup could not have been achieved without the hard work and contribution of everyone involved. Thanks to the generosity of our donors our program will continue to grow and impact those that want to grow the game of golf.
