Recently, SCGA Junior and Palos Verdes GC teamed up to host a junior clinic ahead of the 29th Therese Hession Regional Challenge. Named in honor of Therese Hession, former Director of Golf at Ohio State University, the golf tournament brought 16 collegiate teams together from across the country to compete in this prestigious event.

This year, the SCGA Junior invited 34 juniors to participate in a clinic led by some of the collegiate golfer Maye Huang, Jennifer Seo, Kavya Ajjarapu, Chloe Lam and Mandy Song. Juniors started their day enjoying lunch at the terrace with some of the athletes, then afterward, the juniors participated in three rotating sessions focusing on chipping, putting and the driving range.

Athletes from Ohio State University started their putting clinic by giving juniors advice on how to play efficiently. They ended their rotation with a friendly putting contest, allowing juniors to face-off against Division I athletes. Student-athletes from Clemson University and UCLA provided chipping pointers to individuals they were paired with. University of Oregon and South Carolina gave juniors driving tips on how to effectively improve their distance, accuracy and overall performance off the tee.

After the clinic, juniors attended a Q&A panel facilitated by Lisa Strom, women’s head golf coach of Ohio State University featuring three collegiate athletes: Meghan Royal of UCLA, Faith Choi of Ohio State University and Katherine Schuster of Clemson University. Juniors got to learn more about each players’ golf background and tips for on and off the course such as staying on top of their academics, valuing time with their families and setting time aside for selfcare. The clinic left the juniors inspired, equipped with new skills and motivated to pursue their golfing dreams.
